Owen King entered his senior season just 76 points away from his 2,000th career point. After scoring 10 points in the first game of the season versus Rushford Peterson and a phenomenal 36 point outbreak versus fifth ranked St. Cloud Cathedral; King was just 30 points away.
On Thursday, King scored 17 more points in a 84-52 victory in Winona Cotter. The Caledonia Warriors next game would be Saturday December 16th in Rochester at the HVL-TRC Showdown versus defending Section 1AA Champions and the eight ranked Lake City Tigers. The Warriors looked for revenge against the Tigers who knocked them out of a state playoff birth last season.
King scored a quick 11 first half points including one 3 pointer. Tied at 27 with four minutes to go in the first, King got some separation, pulled up a beautiful jumper that was nothing but net.
A timeout was called as King got congratulations from teammates, coaches, and a standing ovation from the crowd. King became Caledonia's all time leading scorer last season when he passed Sarah Schieber's 1994 record of 1,719 points. King became one of few who have scored 2,000 career points and will continue to tally up the points this season.
The Warriors went on to beat the eight ranked Tigers 79-71. Owen King ended the game with 29 total points. Noah King ended with 17 and Marten Morem with 14. Jordan Burg(4), Eli King(2), Sam Barthel(6), and Riley Gavin(7).
The Warriors advanced to 4-0 on the season and have upcoming games against Lewiston-Altura and Southland.
