Over the last year, video productions and story telling has become my favorite work flow and creative outlet. The final product is what the everyday person will see but it's the process that I have grown to enjoy the most.
Step 1 - The Concept
The concept comes about from a personal idea, company, or another person's vision. The concept is the first stage in bringing their ideas to life. The concept can be one of the most difficult steps to complete, many never even take off. The concept starts with the idea and snow balls into other features of the final product like; length, look, emotion, story telling etc etc. The fun part is that Step 2 can never be created unless the concept is brought to life. This is brought to life by script writing and story boarding.
Step 2 - The Shoot
After all the script writing and story boarding, the shoot can begin. The shoot can be one of the easiest steps if the The Concept is well planned out and organized. The shoot is not a breeze though. As a cinematographer; exposure, focus, and all other camera setting's must be perfect! Perfect? Well, not everything is perfect but that is where Step 3 comes in.
Step 3 - The Edit
The Edit can be one of the longest processes. This is multiple hours of screen time, fine tune tweaking, and fixing any mistakes made in the previous steps. A good story board designed in the process will make a world of difference. Follow the storyboard like cooking directions and all should go well. The Editing consists of all video splicing and dicing, audio manipulation, color correcting and color grading to just name a few. This is where all the magic will happen and where the story will come to life.
Step 4 - The Export
The export/delivery can be the best part of the video production process. The final product has been completed and the package is out for deliver. This step can be a great relief of weight on your shoulders. From here on out, you just hope your customer loves it with the possibly of a few minor final tweaks. The final product is what everybody sees but this long strenuous process is what makes it all worth while.
As you may have thought reading this, sure this may seem quick and easy but the time and dedication from start to finish can be exhausting and that is what makes the whole process worth while!
No matter the video, this is the process that takes place. For me, it's not the customers vision that came to life the most enjoyable part. It's the steps and process it took to create it!
